Slippery Rock High School is taking learning to the next level with the launch of two exciting projects as part of our Manufacturing Innovation Challenge (MIC) Program. Under the leadership of teacher Mr. Motta, students in two CAD classes are engaging in hands-on, real-world problem-solving experiences. Through our partnership, the students have been paired with two leading companies to tackle real industry challenges.
Innovative Industry Partnerships
Mr. Motta’s first class has teamed up with Hall Industries, a company known for its expertise in manufacturing and engineering solutions. Their challenge? To analyze and improve the execution of a specific manufacturing process using automation and other potential solutions. This opportunity allows students to apply their CAD skills in a meaningful way while gaining invaluable insight into the complexities of modern manufacturing.
The second class is collaborating with Butler Technologies, a company specializing in printed electronics and innovative product design. These students are tasked with exploring potential new markets for Butler Technologies’ product offerings. As part of their project, they will create professional renderings and proposals, showcasing their ability to think strategically and creatively about business development.
A Real-World Experience with Professional Impact
By participating in these projects, students are gaining firsthand experience in critical aspects of the manufacturing industry, including problem-solving, design thinking, and professional collaboration. They are not just learning about the industry—they are actively contributing to it.
The projects will be finishing up in May, when the students will present their findings professionally to their respective partner companies. This final step allows them to develop communication and presentation skills, further preparing them for future careers in engineering, design, and manufacturing. Stay tuned for what these students come up with!
