Mount Pleasant students recently wrapped up their Manufacturing Innovation Challenge (MIC) project with Röchling. Their focus was on warehouse layout and how to make it more efficient.
Students worked in groups to rethink how materials are stored and organized. Each group took a different approach, which led to a variety of ideas.
Some groups focused on stacking. They looked at how items could be stored to save space while still staying safe and easy to access. Other groups focused on placement. They explored how moving materials to better locations could improve workflow and reduce extra steps.
Students also thought about larger changes. Some groups suggested reducing inventory to create a more streamlined system. Others proposed expanding the warehouse to allow for more space. While both ideas could not happen at the same time, they showed strong thinking and an understanding of real business decisions.
Throughout the project, students worked within real limits like space, safety, and efficiency. They collaborated as teams and shared ideas to improve the layout.
The final presentations showed that there is more than one way to solve a problem. Each group brought a slightly different perspective. This project gave students a strong look at logistics and operations. It also showed how small changes can make a big impact!
