Manufacturing Innovation Challenge Kicks Off at Roechling

Feb 25, 2026

Another Manufacturing Innovation Challenge kicked off with students from Mt. Pleasant High School visiting Roechling to begin their role as outside consultants on a real-world manufacturing challenge. During the kickoff visit, students toured the entire facility to see the manufacturing process in action, learn about the products they manufacture, the history of the company and see the warehouse, storage systems, and workflow needs to lay the groundwork for their project.

Students are now tasked with developing a warehouse facility storage improvement plan focused on reducing wasted space and minimizing time inefficiencies. The challenge centers on identifying opportunities to improve organization and layout, material flow, and overall warehouse efficiency while supporting daily manufacturing operations.

Following the kickoff visit, students will break into smaller groups to each develop unique improvement plans back at school, applying lean thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration skills. This spring, they will present their findings and recommendations to Roechlings team, completing the experience as industry consultants and demonstrating how student-driven innovation can help reduce waste and improve manufacturing efficiency. Stay tuned to see their ideas come to life.
