Fifteen local educators came together at the JARI Center for an Industry 4.0 Teacher Academy focused on connecting classroom learning with today’s manufacturing industry.
The day gave teachers an opportunity to hear directly from people with connections to the Johnstown area. A panel featuring representatives from Pittsburgh Gateways, Impact Guard, and Catalyst Connection’s Shawn Kaufman shared their perspectives and experiences with the group.
Educators also got hands-on during an activity led by BotsIQ. Later, the Consortium for Public Education helped teachers explore ways to take what they learned throughout the day and bring those ideas back to their students and classrooms.
The academy concluded with a tour of Lockheed Martin, who also generously sponsored the session. To keep the hands-on learning going beyond the academy, each participating school district went home with Finch Robots to use with students.
Experiences like the Teacher Academy help educators connect what students are learning in school with the technology, skills, and opportunities found in modern manufacturing.
