Hands-On Learning: City Charter High Pre-Apprentices Dive Into Welding at the Industrial Arts Workshop

Nov 14, 2024

This week, our IMT Pre-Apprenticeship students from City Charter High School took their skills to the next level with an immersive welding session at the Industrial Arts Workshop (IAW)! The visit provided our students with an incredible opportunity to bring their classroom lessons to life, moving beyond theory and into the tangible world of welding and fabrication.

For many students, this was their first chance to work with professional welding tools and experience the process of metalworking hands-on. With guidance from skilled mentors at IAW, they were able to practice techniques, troubleshoot challenges, and learn about safety protocols—all within a vibrant, real-world workshop setting. Watching the students build confidence as they transformed raw materials into finished pieces was inspiring.

The workshop wasn’t just about mastering technical skills; it was about growth, teamwork, and problem-solving. Engaging in a supportive environment allowed students to ask questions, test their skills, and see the relevance of their classroom studies in an exciting, practical way. Experiences like these are what make our Industrial Manufacturing Technician (IMT) pre-apprenticeship program so unique. They provide students with foundational skills and a clearer picture of what a future in manufacturing and industrial arts could look like.

A huge thank you to the Industrial Arts Workshop for their warm welcome and expertise. The support they provided truly enriched our students’ experience and left a lasting impact.
