Industry 4.0 Teacher Academy Session Recap
Yesterday, educators from across the region gathered at the SkillMill19 Learning Lab for a hands-on session as part of our Industry 4.0 Teacher Academy. The goal was simple: connect classroom learning to real-world manufacturing and advanced technology.
Understanding Manufacturing & Industry 4.0
The session began with an overview of manufacturing and Industry 4.0 in our region. Educators learned how automation, robotics, and smart technologies are shaping today’s workforce—and why it’s important for students to be exposed to these careers early.
We also highlighted SkillMill19’s K–12 programming, which helps students explore career pathways, develop technical skills, and engage in hands-on learning aligned with industry needs.
Inside the SkillMill19 Learning Lab
Next, educators were introduced to the SkillMill19 Learning Lab and its offerings. We shared how teachers can use the lab to support classroom instruction, career exploration, and experiential learning opportunities for students.
Participants then joined CMU MFI for a guided tour of the entire building. The tour showcased how education, industry, and innovation come together in one space.
Hands-On Learning Experiences
The highlight of the day was getting hands-on with the technology. Educators rotated through interactive stations and experienced the same tools students use during SkillMill19 programming, including:
- Mechatronics – Understanding how mechanical, electrical, and control systems work together
- Robotics – Exploring automation used in modern manufacturing
- Soldering – Practicing foundational electronics skills
- FARO Arm – Learning about precision measurement and quality control
These activities sparked meaningful conversations about classroom connections and real-world applications.
Bringing Industry 4.0 Back to the Classroom
By the end of the session, educators left with new ideas and greater confidence. They gained practical knowledge they can share with students and a better understanding of how Industry 4.0 concepts fit into their curriculum.
Looking Ahead
The Industry 4.0 Teacher Academy continues to empower educators as leaders in workforce development. We’re excited to build on this momentum and create even more opportunities for teachers and students.
Thank you to all the educators who joined us. We look forward to welcoming educators back to the SkillMill19 Learning Lab for deep dive sessions on specific technologies.
