Discovering the Future of Manufacturing: A Day at Mill 19

Oct 10, 2025

On October 3, 2025, Catalyst Connection teamed up with the ARM Institute and Carnegie Mellon University’s Manufacturing Futures Institute to celebrate National Manufacturing Day with an exciting event at Mill 19 in Hazelwood Green.

This wasn’t your typical field trip—it was a hands-on adventure into the world of modern manufacturing, designed to spark curiosity and show students how technology, creativity, and problem-solving come together in today’s factories and labs.

A Building Full of Possibilities

Mill 19 was transformed into a three-story exploration zone where students could:

  • 1st Floor: Try out cool robotics and smart machines through interactive demos.
  • 2nd Floor: Meet colleges and training programs that help students prepare for careers in manufacturing.
  • 3rd Floor: Talk to real companies making everything from high-tech tools to everyday products—and learn about the jobs they offer.

Students were free to explore at their own pace, discovering how manufacturing connects technology, education, and real-world careers.

Learning Through Adventure

Each student got a special MFG Day passport to guide their journey. As they visited different stations, they collected stamps—just like a scavenger hunt! It made learning fun and encouraged students to ask questions, try new things, and imagine themselves in future careers.

By the end of the day, students had filled their passports and gained a whole new perspective on what manufacturing is all about.

Voices from the Industry

The event wrapped up with a powerful panel discussion featuring leaders in education, technology, and manufacturing. They talked about the many exciting paths students can take—from robotics and automation to sustainability and supply chains—and the skills needed to succeed in these fields. The message was clear: manufacturing is full of opportunities for creative thinkers, problem-solvers, and future leaders.
