Celebrating Innovation and Careers in Manufacturing at the Digital Foundry Manufacturing Day Event!

Oct 30, 2024

On October 24th, the Digital Foundry in New Kensington buzzed with energy and excitement as over 60 students from local school districts joined industry leaders, educators, and community partners for our Manufacturing Day event!

This unique event was made possible through the efforts of Catalyst Connection, Digital Foundry, Penn State New Kensington, and Alle Kiski CareerLink, whose collaboration brought students together to explore and experience the world of manufacturing and modern industry careers firsthand.

A Day of Discovery for Local Students

The Manufacturing Day event welcomed students into the world of manufacturing with a variety of engaging, hands-on activities and real-life insights from industry experts. With rotations through different stations, students were able to gain exposure to all aspects of manufacturing, helping them envision future career paths and discover the technology, teamwork, and creativity that power this essential industry.

Here’s what students experienced during the day:

  • Manufacturing Company Expo: Over 12 manufacturing companies and partner organizations set up tables for students to explore. Each station introduced students to companies that call the Alle-Kiski Valley home, with representatives ready to answer questions, share insights, and showcase the exciting work their companies do every day.
  • Hands-On Facility Tours: Students were given guided tours of the state-of-the-art facilities at the Digital Foundry. This wasn’t just about looking—it was about doing! Students got hands-on experience with technology and processes, sparking curiosity and enthusiasm for the tools and techniques that shape the industry.
  • Admissions Session with Penn State New Kensington: Representatives from Penn State New Kensington Admissions hosted an interactive session, giving students an inside look at how they can pursue their educational goals right here in their community. The Admissions team walked students through the process of applying, financial aid options, and the diverse academic programs available, emphasizing pathways in manufacturing and STEM fields. This session helped students see how attending Penn State New Kensington could support their future careers in manufacturing and other industries, opening doors to the skills and connections needed in today’s job market.

A Panel of Industry Insiders

To wrap up the day, students gathered for a panel discussion featuring Penn State New Kensington students, Digital Foundry interns, and employees from local manufacturing companies. This diverse panel shared personal stories, industry insights, and advice, giving students a chance to ask questions and gain a realistic look at what a career in manufacturing entails.

An Inspiring Success—And We’re Already Planning for Next Year!

The event’s success was clear in the students’ excitement and engagement, and it’s safe to say they left with a new appreciation for the many paths within the manufacturing industry. The enthusiasm from everyone involved promises an even more exciting Manufacturing Day next year.
